How to share your iPhone location with friends

If you or your friends would like to track each other’s location and meet while using Apple iPhone iOS location features. You’ll be pleased to know that Apple has made it easy to share your location and find a contact with Find My iPhone, which is part of the iOS operating system by default. Once a friend shares their location with you, they can be seen in the Find My app on your iPhone or iPad using the Apple Maps service.

Apple has also made it easy to see how far your friends are from your location, allowing you to calculate how quickly you can meet up, whether you’re walking, driving, or using public transportation. It’s worth noting that if you want to see the distance, your friends are far away from you, you need to make sure you turn on the exact location in the Find Me app.

Share your iPhone location with friends

If you want to share your location with friends and family, you need to set up location sharing on your iPhone or iPad. To do this, go to the “Find iOS” application and click “Me” at the bottom of the screen. You will then see an option to turn on the “Share my location” feature. If your iPhone doesn’t currently share your location with others, you can force it to do so by clicking “Use this iPhone as my location.” Now, when friends or family check your location on their iOS devices, they will see the location of your iPhone, not your iPad or MacBook.

Find your friends

To see the location of your friends and family, simply open the Find My app on your iOS device and select the name of the person you want to locate from the list at the bottom of the screen. If your friend can be found, their location will be displayed on the map, giving you detailed information about where they are. Apple has also made it easy to use Siri to help find a friend who shares their location with you by simply asking Siri by saying “Where’s Steve?” with Steve replaced with your friend’s name.

Unfortunately, if they are out of cellular coverage or their iPhone or iPad is turned off, you may see a “Location Not Found” prompt below their name, indicating that their location cannot be determined at this time.

Once you’ve found one of your friends on your iPhone, you can ask the Maps app to give you directions directly to their location so you can meet up. You can even set up shortcuts to friends’ locations to remind yourself where they might be by tagging them as “Work” or “Home”. To do this, just touch the person you want to create a tag for, touch their name to set the location tag. Click Change Location Name and enter your own shortcut. For your best friends, you can also mark contacts as favorites by simply selecting the person’s name and then clicking “Add to Favorites”.

Disable Location Sharing on iPhone

If you want to change your iPhone’s ability to share its location with friends and family, just sign in to the Find My app and tap on the contact you want to remove from notifications. In the Notifications section, select one of the following options: Edit notification by selecting Edit, then tap Done or Disable Notification by tapping Remove Notification, then confirm by selecting Remove Notification again.

You can also use the iOS location sharing features to get notified when your friend arrives or leaves a shared location, just select a contact, and in the Notifications section, tap Add and Notify Me. It is worth remembering that any notifications you set up will be sent as an alert to your friend or family member to prevent any illegal tracking. Apple allows you to create up to 25 Notify Me notifications.

If your contact agrees that you’re following them, choose whether you want to be notified when they arrive or leave the location again. You can set a larger radius if you want to know when a friend is leaving town rather than a specific rent. If you set up recurring notifications, your contact will need to approve location hints before it is set and will receive an alert asking them to approve the location sharing you’ve set up.
