How to update your Apple HomePod and HomePod Mini

This guide is intended to show you how to update your Apple HomePod and HomePod Mini manually. This can be done when Apple releases a new update.

The Apple HomePod is designed to update automatically when this feature is enabled, although it may take a while after a software update is released. If you want to update your device faster, you can manually update on your device.

How to manually update HomePod?

Make sure your iPhone or iPad is running the latest versions of iOS or iPadOS from Apple. The latest versions as of this writing are iOS 16.3 and iPadOS 16.3.

This works on both HomePod and HomePod Mini, you will need to open the Home app on your iPhone or iPad.

Now go to the top right corner and click the “More” button, it’s a circle with three dots in the middle.

Now select “Home Settings” from the menu and you will be taken to the main settings menu in the Home app on your device.

Scroll down until you see Software Update and select Software Update. Your home app will now check for available updates for your device.

If an update is available, select Install and your HomePod and HomePod Mini will have the latest software update installed. If you have multiple devices, it will be installed on all of them.

This is a fairly simple and easy way to get the latest HomePod software on your device before it automatically downloads. You can learn more about this on the Apple website.

When your HomePod is updating, a white spinning indicator will be displayed at the top of the device, which will disappear when the update is complete.

How to check which HomePod software you are using?

If you’d like to check which version of the Apple HomePod software you’re running on your HomePod or HomePod Mini, you can do so in the Home app on your device.

Open the Home app on your iPhone or iPad, then select the HomePod you want to check the software version on.

Click on this HomePod and select the settings icon at the bottom, it looks like a cog or cog, now scroll down and you will see what version of HomePod software is running on your device.

This guide is designed to help you easily check which HomePod software version your device is running, and to easily update it. This guide was written using iOS 16.3 software on an iPhone and HomePod 16.3 software. These are the latest versions at the time of writing.
