California-based Hyperloop Transportation Technology, which is trying to build a 1,200 km/h supersonic train, wants Investissement Québec to buy a stake in the company to run the Mirabell plant project.

“The proceeds are intended to capitalize the company so that it can purchase the equipment and labor needed to set up a test track at Mirabel in the airport area,” we can read in a recent lobbying mandate given to public relations firm National.
Even if there is still a lot of work to be done before a quick 20-minute Quebec-Montreal trip can be made, the planned test track could set the stage for a futuristic transportation network here.
At the moment, the target of lobbying activities are two public institutions, namely Investissement Québec and the Ministry of Economy and Innovation.
Meetings, written messages, phone calls and interviews are planned to tempt Quebec, which closed two years ago.
As Le Journal reported, the lobbyist indicated in the dossier that “it remains very tentative at this stage.”
In Ottawa, the Hyperloop-authorized lobbyist met more than ten times with advisers to the ministers of innovation, finance, and the prime minister.
Launched in 2013, the supersonic train concept was popularized by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who outlined the concept in a 57-page document.
Hyperloop Transportation Technologies of Culver City pioneered this idea, but dozens of others have since emerged.
Today Hyperloop has projects in Toulouse (France), the Great Lakes (USA), Abu Dhabi (UAE) and Hamburg (Germany).
Hyperloop did not respond to our request for an interview yesterday.
