After Wasteland 3, scheduled for August 28, inXile Entertainment will be able to fully focus on its next RPG, described as “ambitious” by Brian Fargo. If it is still too early to reveal it, the boss of the studio bought by Microsoft in November 2018 clarified one thing about it: it will run on Unreal Engine 5.
“We have received quite a few questions about our next gen RPG, and I can confirm that it will use the Unreal Engine 5”said Brian Fargo on Twitter. Unveiled last week with a real-time demo on PS5, the engine developed by Epic Games will be available in beta in early 2021 before a full release later in the year, knowing that the developers are currently working on a game Unreal Engine 4 can easily migrate their project to this new engine when it becomes available. It will also be supported on current consoles (PS4, Xbox One, Switch), PC, Mac, iOS and Android.
Phil Spencer, boss of the video game at Microsoft, had recalled last week that several Xbox Game Studios teams use Unreal Engine, including Ninja Theory for Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, but also The Coalition (Gears 5), Rare (Sea of Thieves, Everwild), Obsidian (Grounded) or Double Fine ( Psychonauts 2). Wasteland 3 is designed with Unity.
