IQM supplies quantum processing units for the first Spanish quantum computer.

This week it was confirmed that IQM Quantum Computers (IQM), the European leader in quantum computing, will supply quantum processors for the first Spanish quantum computer. The latest supercomputer will be installed at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) and integrated into the MareNostrum 5 supercomputer, which is currently the most powerful computer in the country. This is another example of our European leadership, demonstrating our commitment to developing the Spanish quantum ecosystem in collaboration with both public and private institutions. Through our office in Madrid, we can also provide the necessary support for this project.”

Dr. Jan Goetz, CEO and cofounder of IQM Quantum Computers, said: “This is an important announcement for IQM. We have the necessary knowledge and experience in the development of quantum processors, computers and national quantum ecosystems. We look forward to working with Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech and are delighted to be part of such a strong consortium and play an important role in providing quantum processing units for this remarkable project.”

IQM is a member of a consortium led by the Spanish companies Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech and GMV, which was selected by Quantum Spain as part of an initiative promoted by the Ministry of Economy and Digital Transformation through the Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence (SEDIA) in December. 2022 to build the first quantum computer for public use in Southern Europe.

The integration of a quantum computer in MareNostrum 5 can significantly increase the impact of research and innovation by providing solutions that complement the capabilities of existing supercomputers, which will be available to the research community, companies and public organizations, as well as by enhancing technological and industrial development in Spain and creating highquality jobs.

We are happy to use the experience of a great player like IQM to support the development of this innovative system, which will be based solely on Spanish and European technology. We are confident that this will be a very fruitful collaboration and we look forward to working with IQM,” said Victor Canivell, cofounder and CEO of Qilimanjaro.”
