Fans may not get Batgirl, but we’ll be getting DC’s Joker 2 soon. A sequel to the 2019 Oscarwinning film starring Joaquin Phoenix has been in the works for some time now, and now Deadline reports that the studio has scheduled it for release on October 4, 2024, exactly five years after the original’s release. The film’s title, according to cowriter and director Todd Phillips, is Joker: Folie à Deux, which translates to “general madness.” It seems to be used to describe that several people share the same delusion.
Phoenix is expected to return and there are rumors that Lada Gaga could be joining him as Harley Quinn, which may explain the rumor that Joker: FoleyaTwo is a musical. If this is true, Gaga’s casting might make sense. Filming is expected to begin later this year.
The studio has just shelved a nearly finished ScoobyDoo movie and a nearly finished DC movie in Batgirl. So I’m sure they see this movie as money in the bank to help recoup the costs. It’s also similar to Warner Bros. The strategy of DC films is to make them bigger shows. Well, the Joker sequel should steer things in the right direction. Many fans are looking forward to Joker 2.
