Kenworth showcases its all-electric large T680E rig at CES

In recent years, CES in Las Vegas has become a fashionable place for automakers to showcase high-tech vehicles. At CES 2022, semi-trailer manufacturer Kenworth showcased a new large electrical unit called the T680E. With the enormous distances that a typical semi-trailer travels every day, the T680E is definitely not the right fit for most haulage scenarios.

Kenworth says the T680E has a range of 150 miles, depending on the application. It is a Class 8 vehicle with a GVW of 82,000 lbs. The electric powertrain has a constant output of 536 horsepower and a peak output of 670 horsepower.

The electric powertrain develops 1623 lb-ft of torque. Top speed is limited to 65 mph, which is typical for semi-trailers. The car can use charging systems ranging from 20 kilowatts to 350 kilowatts. It’s unclear how much an electric semi-trailer costs, but keep in mind that a traditional large diesel setup can cost over $ 160,000.
