Kojima reportedly in talks with Xbox as PS5 abandonment spurs conspiracy theories

PlayStation 5 PS5 1 discontinued

We all felt, here at Push the square towers, something seemed fishy with the announcement of the exclusive discontinuation for PlayStation 5 – and we’re clearly not alone. The web is rife with conspiracy theories right now, as the seemingly innocent survival game is gaining a lot of attention. But is there more than what can be seen here, or is it really the work of an unknown Dutch independent team?

For those who missed the news earlier, Abandoned was advertised as a “cinematic survival simulation” on the PlayStation Blog. It was a PS5 exclusive, which prompted a promotion on all Sony social channels. It’s not unusual for the platform owner to spotlight upcoming software like this, but something is wrong with the announcement that we couldn’t quite put our finger on it.

For starters, there is hardly any information about Dutch developer Blue Box Game Studios on the web. The entire history of the studio, as far as we can understand, includes a failed Kickstarter and a smartphone app. A few years ago there was a website, but it was filled with placeholder graphics and can only be accessed through Archive.org. It is under development at the moment.

Meanwhile, his social media accounts have been abandoned for five years now, and there is no mention of this project at all. There’s something fishy about a studio announcing a massive project due out this year, but not even acknowledging the game’s existence anywhere online.

In addition, the director of the game Hasan Kahraman is hardly present on the Internet. We found a LinkedIn profile registered by someone who works at BBGS – which we assume is an acronym for Blue Box Game Studios – but the page does not contain any other information; there is no training and no work history at all. So it is, of course, weird.

Of course, that’s where conspiracy theories come in. Many have compared the storyline to Moby Dick Studios, which was a ruse by Hideo Kojima used to advertise Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain; the author used a similar trick with PT’s now infamous demo, which was touted at a Sony press conference as a random indie horror game – before leading up to the Silent Hills reveal, though sure.

So is this Kojima’s work? Well, we’re honestly not sure. The developer of Death Stranding has hinted that he is preparing an announcement soon, but the dropped trailer seems too amateurish to be the work of the former Metal Gear man. We can certainly see how people make the connection, as it comes straight from the veteran’s playbook, but we’re not convinced yet.

Additionally, while we researched this article, Venture Beat outspoken reporter Jeff Grubb posted a report stating that Kojima cannot be involved – as he is in talks with Microsoft to release a title on Xbox platforms. . Grubb – who is quite reliable – goes on to admit he’s “uncertain” if the Redmond firm made the deal, but points to a figurine spotted on the shelf of boss Phil Spencer as a potential clue. We don’t say a word about it!

To be fair, we’ve prevailed over thousands upon thousands of game announcements on the PlayStation Blog, and there’s definitely something odd about Abandoned. We imagine that more research will take place over the next few days – and it will be fun if it really does. is a small Dutch team behind the project, wondering what’s going on.

As for Kojima’s future, well that’s gonna be a whole other drama it seems …
