The second edition of Gaming vs retrogaming in La Gacilly (Morbihan) looks promising with new games even if they are old and a new setting for fun to play at any age and with many.
Interview with Frederick Gin, Arcade Legends Concept Project Lead
Will the second edition let you find other games?
We bring seven arcade games with new games like motorcycle racing, buggy racing, Areza 51 shooting (1995). I also install vintage terminals with cathode ray screens. These are old TVs that can be played with Tétris (1984 puzzle video game), Taiko No Tatsujin (2001 music rhythm games), Puckman that became Pac-Man (1980).
The last collector then?
Yes, because under this terminology there is little, It is a curiosity and the terminal is made of wood.
One of the pinball machines doesn’t support sports news?
Yes, it is dedicated to the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the USA. You can use it to score goals. The second is a Rock pinball machine.
What do you suggest in terms of video games?
Four-player Super Mario Kart Nintendo corner play cube and vintage Bang & Olufsen Nintendo Nes corner TV with Duck Hunt. This model, released in 1976, is the first model with a scart connector. There is also a table tennis game with Pong (the first sports arcade video game from the 1970s). For a joke, its creators did not register a patent, so they adopted everything.
Also, are you installing three computers online?
Yes. Visitors will use old computers, which we call “computers”, to play Bike Mania.
Where does this passion for retrogaming come from?
The people who make video games have played them themselves and want to share them with the little ones. This is the only installation where I see moms running around the Pac-Man terminal to show their kids how it’s done. Moreover, they have the same games as Super Mario. It is still based on the same principle, although it has a different graphic design. Also people have a real desire to have fun together especially after Covid.
How do you store your collectibles?
We are looking for spare parts, cathode-ray screens. To do this, we cooperate with collectors. We share our repair skills.
Why are you adding that 80s/90s/2000s musical vibe to Friday night?
This is a plus. DJ Zombie Prince (me) recreates the atmosphere of the arcade halls with spotlights, for total immersion in those years.
