La Haute Autorité de santé advises against Modern for those under 30 years of age

Dans an avis renu ce lundi, the Haute autorité de santé (HAS) déconseille desormais d’administrer le vaccin Moderna aux personnes de moins de 30 ans en raison d’un possible risque accru de myocardites chez les plus jeunes, explain the HAS dans a Press release.

The latest data available in France “confirm the risk of the appearance of very rare cases of myocarditis with a favorable evolution” after vaccination against Covid-19. However, these cases are “five times less” in those under 30 years vaccinated with Pfizer-BioNTech instead of Moderna, explains HAS.

Pfizer for booster doses

If the HAS confirms resumption of vaccination with Moderna, it therefore advises vaccinating those under 30 years of age with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine “either a primary vaccination or a booster”.

The Moderna vaccine was suspended on October 15 for booster doses, after warning from several Scandinavian countries about the risks of myocarditis and pericarditis in young people.
