LG introduced a prototype of a stretchable flexible screen

LG will showcase its new screen prototype this week in the form of a stretchable flexible display that can be stretched to inches without breaking, making the 12inch display capable of stretching up to 14 inches when stretched. The new technology is expected to be used in a wide range of applications, from furniture, automobiles and aviation to clothing and jewelry.

LG is not the first company to develop a stretchable display, but it is the first company to achieve 20 percent stretchability. The new stretchable screen features 100 ppi resolution and full color RGB backlighting and is based on a highly elastic film substrate made from a special silicon used in contact lenses.

“The Stretchable display uses a microLED light source with a pixel pitch of less than 40 microns, which provides a high level of durability to withstand significant external influences, as well as a resolution that rivals most existing monitors. Unlike a conventional linear wire system, the optimal structure of the flexible Sshaped spring wire system of the stretchable display can withstand repeated shape changes, providing consumers with incredible durability and reliability.”

Expandable flexible screen

“In addition to being thin and light in design, the revolutionary Stretchable display technology offers a new level of versatility for a variety of everyday scenarios. This unique innovation, which is easy to attach to curved surfaces such as leather, clothing, furniture, automobiles and aircraft, expands the display’s potential in industries including fashion, wearables, mobility and gaming.”
