The Spanish group Mediapro, the main broadcaster of Ligue 1 for the period 2020-2024, has formed a partnership with TF1 in order to create a Téléfoot channel. A prime marketing move that could, perhaps, allow the company to assert itself in the face of Canal +, BeIN Sports or RMC Sport.
Although it is still unknown in France, Mediapro aims to become a major in the international audiovisual sector. In Spain, it is already notably the historic broadcaster of La Liga.
An agreement to exploit the Telefoot brand
In a press release, TF1 specifies, “the Mediapro Group, a new key player in French football, and the TF1 group announce the signing of an original agreement. This four-year, renewable partnership is based on three fundamental pillars: a brand license, an editorial and production partnership and a talent partnership“.
The channel will broadcast 80% of Ligue 1 matches, as well as eight matches per Ligue 2 day. Programs and magazines are planned. The duo of commentators Grégoire Margotton and Bixente Lizarazu will also comment on the most beautiful posters in Ligue 1. The new antenna should be offered from August for a price which should be around 25 euros per month.
