Discovering Paris, Berlin, Rotterdam and Chicago in augmented reality. Magnicity, specialist in high-altitude urban tourism, and Timescope, a start-up specializing in the digitization of tourism experiences, have launched a new mobile application to discover these cities in a different way. Called Magnicity, it is available for free as of today, Friday April 30, 2021, on iOS and Android.
Filters and 3D reconstructions
Concretely, once the application has been downloaded, all you have to do is open it to access the panoramic view of the city in its entirety and easily locate the sites, monuments and other visible points of interest. By pointing his camera towards the horizon, famous places are superimposed on the view. To get the most out of this experience, you have to go to a precise observatory located several hundred meters above sea level.
In Paris, the site is located in Montparnasse. In Berlin, the Berliner Fernsehturm was chosen and it is the Euromast and 360 Chicago Hancock Tower sites that are concerned for Rotterdam and Chicago. Magnicity promises a discovery of both historical and cultural cities since the application mixes anecdotes and classic information. Different formats are available: text, short videos, filters and 3D reconstructions. In total, nearly 200 sites and monuments are referenced.
“Observing the city at altitude is an experience that naturally invites you to wonder: where are its monuments and its multiple points of interest? What has it been like over the centuries? What will it look like in the future? The Magnicity application was designed as an answer to these universal questions “, summarizes Adrien Sadaka, CEO of Timescope, in a press release. In the future Magnicity wishes to extend this application to the other cities where it will be established.
