Marseille: City of Olives traffic, up to seven years of signature required

This point of sale, one of the main drug outlets in Marseille, spotted by the police in 2019, received more than 1,000 customers every day.

This Wednesday, up to seven years in prison were demanded against the eleven defendants tried since Monday for their alleged participation in the network of the City of Olives, one of the main points of sale of drugs in Marseille.

“Their anchorage in traffic seems such that no conviction seems to be able to rule them out,” said the fatalistic prosecutor, Magali Raffaele, noting that most of the defendants are “repeat offenders” for whom “choosing a legal activity will always be less profitable.”

Up to 50,000 euros of billing per day

This point of sale, spotted by the Police in 2019, received more than 1,000 customers every day, from 10:00 am to 4:00 am, for an estimated daily turnover of 50,000 euros, the magistrate recalled. Regarding the arrests and raids, specifically in three apartments “nurses”, they had allowed the seizure of cannabis, cocaine and ecstasy for a market value of 1.5 million euros.

But, “after each wave of arrests, the media works again, the imprisoned protagonists are replaced and the heads of networks continue to direct their affairs from their place of detention,” lamented the magistrate, for whom justice “must put an end to the feeling of impunity felt by those who engage in this traffic in Marseille “.

The prosecutor asked for “non-adaptable” sentences and without counting the preventive detention of those who have evaded justice after previous convictions: “We cannot win on all fronts,” he said.

The expected trial this Thursday

At the bottom of the scale, two-year sentences, including a three-year suspension, including an 18-month suspension, were required against the three “nurses” who rented their apartments to store drugs, and a two-year suspended sentence for the wife of an alleged trafficker for “no justification of resources.”

Sentences of five, six and seven years in prison have been demanded from the six presumed responsible for supplying narcotics to the city, their transport and packaging, the security of transactions or the payment of the traffic handymen.

The highest penalty is directed at a 24-year-old man suspected of numerous deliveries to Les Oliviers, but also to Montpellier and the city of Nice’s Mills. At his home, investigators found weighing and cutting equipment, as well as tally sheets with his DNA and nearly 200 kg of consigned deliveries.

A final sentence of 18 months was imposed against the only defendant absent from the trial. The trial is expected Thursday afternoon.
