Why run for city council?

Lucie Allard: Because I have a passion for my city and I want to contribute to its influence. I want to be an active actor in its development and really work for the quality of life of the citizens of Bécancour.

Karl Grondin: I have been serving the citizens for 12 years, so to speak, close to politics. I didn’t start yesterday. I am interested in giving people time and sharing my experience and my contacts.

Denis Vouligny: During the four years that I have been here, I have said to myself: Why not get more involved? I like that, it is motivating to see what is currently happening in the city of Bécancour. It is really, among other things, that [j’ai] the motivation to come.

Blak D. Blackburn: Although I am the leader of the Bloc Pot, which is a provincial party, the problems [du cannabis] at the municipal level it is necessary to debate.

What will be your priority if you are elected?

Lucie Allard: The principle that will guide all the decisions of the city council is really sustainable development, be it on the economic level … because the economic growth of the city is very close to my heart … either on the ecological level. Whether at the governance level, all the projects that revolve around that will be very important.

Karl Grondin: I get people to talk a lot about road safety. I think there are still quite a few things that can be done quickly. So, of course, I want to strongly support the innovation zone project that Deputy Martel wants to launch with the government. We can feel a lot of excitement around that.

Denis Vouligny: Especially the economy, I would tell you, and the budget that we have to worry about. The economy, well, I mean the commercial sector, the industrial sector in the SME park. What is coming in the park, well, there is infrastructure that needs to be monitored to keep up with what is happening as evolution.

Blak D. Blackburn: We will definitely continue to campaign to end the stigmatization of cannabis users, be it medical or recreational.

What is the biggest challenge in your city?

Lucie Allard: It’s promoting local shopping with us. So really promoting our services, our local products, then one of the means that will be used, well, is really adopting a local procurement policy with us.

Karl Grondin: We know that people like to live with us. We have to promote that and make sure we attract as many people as possible to stay with us. For the quality of service we have, we have nothing to envy anyone.

Denis Vouligny: This year, we have currently issued 130 building permits. The challenge is to meet the requirements, the needs of these newcomers who are going to settle there.
