Microsoft improved Xbox launch time

Microsoft is speeding up the loading of its Xbox consoles. In the latest test builds of the Xbox Dashboard from Xbox Insider, cold boot time has been reduced by approximately 5 seconds for Xbox Series X/S consoles. Microsoft has been able to speed up the boot sequence by creating a shorter startup animation.

Xbox testers have recently noticed a faster launch, and Microsoft confirmed the changes on Friday. Josh Munsey, director of integrated marketing for Xbox, explains that the company has created a “shorter loading animation (~4s) compared to the original loading animation (~9s), which helps reduce overall load times. »

The changes are also not limited to Xbox Series X/S consoles. “With these changes, Xbox One consoles launch noticeably faster,” said Jake Rosenberg, Senior Product Manager, Xbox.

Xbox owners will only benefit from this faster boot time if their console is set to low power mode rather than sleep mode. Power save mode means that the console turns off completely instead of going to sleep. This means you can’t turn on the console and start playing right away, but power saving mode is better in terms of energy bills and the planet.

Microsoft’s changes will make power saving mode boot faster by reducing the Xbox Series X/S boot process from about 20 seconds to about 15 seconds (including the time between pressing the power button, serving, and the animation). This makes power saving mode even more attractive, especially after Microsoft made it the default option for new Xbox consoles earlier this year, and also added support for downloading updates in reverse.
