Microsoft: Windows 11 launch is going so well Microsoft is improving its schedule

Microsoft sees a “high rate of positive upgrade experiences” for Windows 10 users upgrading to Windows 11, and therefore wants to speed up availability again.

Microsoft is relying more and more on the Windows 11 release, which started on October 5 and spiked at the end of October.

The main obstacle to adopting Windows 11 is that Microsoft has imposed strict minimum hardware requirements for the new operating system. By one estimate, only half of corporate workstations meet these requirements today.

However, on hardware that meets Microsoft’s hardware requirements, the experience is good enough to expand the Windows 11 deployment.

“During the early stages of Windows 11 deployment, we regularly see a high rate of positive update experiences and user feedback for eligible devices, identified using our next-generation machine learning model,” Microsoft said.

“Based on this data, we are advancing the pace of deployment faster than we initially announced, and now we are making the Windows 11 update more available for eligible Windows 10 devices.”

At best, eligible Windows PCs account for about 40% of the 1.3 billion PCs running Windows 10. However, Microsoft appears to be safe and estimates that most organizations will have migrated to new compatible hardware with Windows 11 in October 2025, when the company will stop distributing patches for Windows 10.

This week, Microsoft released Windows 10 version 21H2, a minor update that the company says will be the last biannual version of Windows 10. The publisher will update to annual versions until October 2025. Although Windows 10 support is still provided during this week. period, Microsoft wants users to upgrade to Windows 11.

But Windows 11 has been the victim of a series of errors that affect functions such as the taskbar, search, and the Start menu.

Yesterday, Microsoft confirmed that the Microsoft installer may have problems updating applications, including Kaspersky Antivirus.

“Affected applications may not open after an update or repair attempt,” Microsoft said.

The solution is to uninstall the affected application and then install the latest version of the application.

And, as is often the case with newer versions of Windows, Windows 11 encountered some compatibility issues with Intel hardware drivers. This, affecting the drivers for certain versions of the Intel Smart Sound Technology (Intel SST) drivers, causes a blue screen error).

“Intel and Microsoft have discovered incompatibility issues with certain driver versions for Intel Smart Sound Technology (Intel SST) and Windows 11. Windows 11 devices with the affected Intel SST driver may display an error with a blue screen,” Microsoft noted.

The problem was so extensive and severe that Microsoft stopped offering Windows 11 to Windows 10 devices with this Intel driver installed.

“To preserve your upgrade experience, we have discontinued device support for affected Intel SST drivers from being offered Windows 11,” Microsoft said.
