Sony surprised us all yesterday by announcing a £30/€50 price increase for the PlayStation 5. This means the new MSRP is now £389.99 / £449.99 for the digital version and £479.99 / €549.99 for the standard PlayStation 5.
Nintendo has already said it won’t do the same with the Switch, but what about Microsoft? Piers Harding-Rolls, Ampere’s director of gaming research, said he believes “Microsoft will take advantage of Sony’s promotion to get their message of ‘value’ across, but now an Xbox spokesperson has clarified their strategy to Windows Central:
“We are constantly evaluating our business to provide our fans with a great gaming experience. Our MSRP remains at $299 (€250, €300) for Xbox Series S and $499 (€450, €500) for Xbox Series X.
Thankfully, there won’t be any price hikes on Xbox anytime soon.
