Microsoft’s Activision deal expected to win EU approval

In January 2022, Microsoft announced that it would buy Activision in a $69 billion deal, the deal was scrutinized by regulators, although according to a recent report, the deal is about to be approved by European regulators.

Microsoft recently announced new licensing deals with Nintendo and Nvidia for popular Activision games, which seems to have worked in Microsoft’s favor. Microsoft is also expected to offer Sony a similar licensing deal for popular games like Call of Duty.

According to a Reuters report, the decision to merge with Microsoft Activision will be made by April 25, 2023, so we can expect an official announcement around that time.

Microsoft is also under scrutiny from other regulators over the deal, including the Competition and Markets Authority in the UK and the Federal Trade Commission in the US.

If Microsoft can convince these regulators that it will not restrict Activision games to its own Xbox platform and allow games to also be available on other platforms such as the Sony PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and others, then they can get the approval they need to conclude deals. forward, continue.

It will be interesting to see if the $69 billion acquisition goes ahead and gets all the necessary regulatory approvals.
