MLB The Show 21 on Xbox: the decision does not come from Sony

Game news MLB The Show 21 on Xbox: the decision does not come from Sony

Until then reserved for Sony consoles, MLB The Show 21 will be released at the end of the month on Xbox One and Xbox Series and in particular on Microsoft’s subscription service, Xbox Game Pass. A decision that would come from the publisher of the game, MLB Advanced Media.

On April 20, the first game developed by PlayStation Studios will be released on machines other than those built by Sony. Indeed, it is the MLB The Show 21 baseball game that will be available on PS4, PS5 but also on Xbox One and Xbox Series. This initiative was taken following the renewal of the contract between Sony and MLB (Major League Baseball) in December 2019. A decision taken by the latter explains a representative of Sony in an interview with Reverse :

One of MLB’s ambitions for the 2021 edition was to bring the franchise to even more baseball players and fans. This move may allow them to establish MLB The Show as the premier baseball video game brand.

A statement that supports the various speculations surrounding the signing of this contract. MLB The Show is a commercial and critical success in the United States: it would have been difficult for Sony not to accept the terms submitted by the publisher and lose such a profit. In any case, it revives the debate around the perfect exclusivity of the games developed by PlayStation Studios.

As a reminder, MLB The Show 21 is targeting an April 20 release on Xbox One, Xbox Series, PS4, PS5 and will be available at launch in Xbox Game Pass as well as on Android phones and tablets via Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) for Ultimate members. The title will be cross-play (it will be possible to play with users of other consoles) and will display a progression cross-platform, allowing to keep its backup according to the machines.
