Monark: first details on the JRPG developed by Lancarse

Following an error of timing, we knew that publisher FuRyu would soon unveil a mysterious “new school RPG”. The most recent edition of the magazine Famitsu reveals to us that it is in fact Monark. This production relies on a talented team made up of series veterans, among others. Megami Tensei and Shin megami tensei.

Developed by the Lancarse studio, Monark features a protagonist who works within a student council established to resolve abnormal situations. He will have to choose between four companions, which will translate into as many different ways of experiencing the story. Some “routes” are shared and can be skipped to facilitate replayability.

Monark is based on a combat system where you can unleash powerful abilities at the cost of your own sanity. A balance is in order not to fall into madness, in which case you will unleash as much on your allies as your enemies.

Lancarse also explained their EGO system for Monark. Depending on his diagnoses and his choices, the protagonist will change one of his facets, in this case capital sins: pride, anger, envy, lust, gluttony or laziness. The level of these sins affects the type of demons you will be able to recruit.

The JRPG is being developed for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Switch for release on October 14, 2021 in Japan.
