MSI reduces warranty time for 19 graphics cards due to cryptocurrency mining NetCost & Security

The huge demand for graphics cards for cryptocurrency mining promotes the scarcity of this equipment in the market. But it also encourages the increase in the price of units still available. In this way, manufacturers have already adopted some measures, such as limiting the hash rate. However, even this does not appear to have had a significant impact on this scourge.

But now MSI has reduced the warranty period in Russia for 19 of its graphics cards, many of which are dedicated to mining digital parts.

Brands start to cut GPU warranty

According to recent information, some brands have already started reducing the warranty time of their graphics cards in some territories due to cryptocurrency mining.

For example, the Taiwanese MSI reduced its GPU warranty to just 6 months in Russia. According to a document from MSI Russia, this reduction was implemented in 19 chips. The list shows that the former are plates intended for mining, but there are also models for gaming, like the GeForce RTX 3070 Ventus 3x OC.

Typically, warranties for these graphics chips are 36 months. In this way, it can be expected that other brands will follow MSI’s attitude and that this reduction will spread to other territories.

But at a time when the market is experiencing a low stock of components, buying equipment as rare as these and with a short warranty period is certainly not to the liking of the overwhelming majority of consumers.

In addition, farmer Gigabyte recently announced the first version of the Nvidia CMP 30HX card, which is intended exclusively for mining. But this chip only has 90 days warranty.

However, mining chips generally have a shorter warranty period, although not as short as that imposed by Gigabyte. This is because they tend to be used intensively 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, without any interruptions. But that’s not what happens with game boards.
