Naomi Musenga case: a new experience rules out paracetamol poisoning – sciences et Avenir

The death of Naomi Musenga, a young resident of Strasbourg who died at the end of 2017 after being mocked by a Samu operator, is due to abdominal bleeding, according to the conclusions of a new expert report that discards the thesis of paracetamol intoxication, mentioned in a first report.

“The obvious elements of gravity are in favor of the hypothesis (…) of a multifactorial shock with an evident hemorrhagic component with circulatory and metabolic repercussions”, indicates in its conclusions, consulted this Tuesday by AFP, this new expert opinion. This was carried out as part of the judicial investigation opened in July 2018 for “failure to assist a person in danger” and “involuntary manslaughter”, aimed in particular at the operator.

Naomi’s distress call, treated with contempt by a Samu regulator, unleashed a huge wave of outrage in France after the soundtrack of their exchange was broadcast in the media and on social media.

“The death of Mrs. Naomi Musenga is linked to the dramatic evolution of a state of shock of abdominal origin”, the experts believe, according to which “it is necessary to rule out the diagnosis of fulminant hepatitis with paracetamol”, fought by the family of the young man.

The latter was the victim of a “digestive vascular accident” that caused him to hemorrhage, summarized Professor Christian Marescaux, former head of the neurovascular unit of the University Hospitals of Strasbourg (HUS), who was present with Naomi’s relatives at his wheel press. at the beginning of the matter.

“It’s a first win,” reacted Louange Musenga, Naomi’s sister. “We are fed up (of her) being incriminated for having committed suicide (…) by self-medication, which is totally false,” he continued, explaining that those close to Naomi had also financed a private expert opinion that also devastates the paracetamol thesis.

The judicial report, obtained by the family from the Colmar Appeals Court, does not find any “deficiency” or “anomaly” in Naomi’s care but contradicts the conclusions of a first report delivered a few months after the young woman’s death. woman, who died on December 29, 2017.

According to the conclusions of this first expert report, he died of “intoxication with paracetamol absorbed by self-medication for several days”.

This report “was clearly wrong,” said Marescaux, who never believed the paracetamol poisoning hypothesis.

“This error, which has lasted four years, has made it impossible to think about the type of pathology that Naomi had” and its management in emergencies, said the neurologist. The latter had already publicly denounced in 2014 dysfunctions in the university hospitals of Strasbourg in the care of stroke patients.
