Netflix launches into video games

Netflix announced Wednesday that it was making its first acquisition for its video game catalog, with US independent developer and publisher Night School Studio.

Netflix buys video game developer Night School Studio, behind the adventure game “Oxenfree.” It is the first game studio to be acquired by the American streaming company. The amount of the transaction was not disclosed.

Earlier this year, it was announced that in addition to series, documentaries and movies, Netflix also wanted to offer video games. The former should be available on the platform before the end of next year, sources familiar with the matter had later entrusted.

The streaming platform is facing increasing competition from Disney +, Amazon Prime Video, and HBO.

For Netflix, the challenge is to access new markets. The company remains the market leader in streaming series and movies, but faces increasing competition from Disney +, Amazon Prime Video, and HBO.

Amazon has already started investing in games. The e-commerce giant has just launched its new multiplayer game “New World” on Tuesday, in a forceful way, which at the time was the most played game on the Internet.
