Pixelmator Pro 2.4 Odesa, the team behind the excellent photo editing app Pixelmator Pro for Mac, released a huge update this week. It has a host of new features, including a completely redesigned Layers sidebar, color settings and effect layers, over 200 new vector shapes, and support for the latest Apple M1 Ultra processors.
The Pixelmator Pro app now includes over 200 new artist-designed shapes as several new collections of shapes that have been integrated into existing offerings and are now grouped into Basic, Actions, Food, Objects, Arches, Science, Animals, Plants, Organic, and symbols.
Earlier this year, Apple released its new M1 Ultra chip, and now Pixelmator Pro is taking advantage of the performance benefits of running machine learning-based tasks on the latest Mac Studio devices. Tasks such as automatic background removal, ultra-high resolution, and photo enhancement are completed 1.7x faster on the M1 Ultra than on the M1 Max.
Other improvements in the latest release of Pixelmator Pro 2.4 Odesa include a redesigned layer sidebar, color adjustments and effect layers, smooth scaling, and more.
– The Layers sidebar has been redesigned to make it easier to work with layers.
– Informative layer subtitles now show useful information about layers depending on their type: dimensions for image layers, text formatting for text layers, path information for shape layers, and more.
– Blending controls have been redesigned and now appear at the top of the Layers sidebar by default.
– Layer sidebar view options are now customizable, so you can change thumbnail size, layer subtitle visibility, and position of blend controls.
– You can now quickly add an empty layer with the new “Add Empty Layer” button.
– Layer masks will now show up as separate layers in the Layers sidebar.
– Layer masks can now be detached from their parent layer – double-click the line connecting a layer mask to its layer to link or unlink it.
– You can now create masks by dragging layers onto other layers while holding down the Command key.
– You can also copy and paste masks between different Pixelmator Pro documents.
– Use the new keyboard shortcut Shift-Command-T to paste text layers and Option-Shift-Command-T to paste circular text layers.
– Preserve Transparency, Replace Image, and Select Mask options are now available in the context menu of the Layers sidebar.
