Microsoft unveiled a cheaper version of its Xbox Elite Series 2 controller yesterday, starting at €129.99. The new Xbox Elite Series 2 Core controller comes in white and is very similar to a regular controller, except it doesn’t have replacement parts or a carrying case.
New Xbox Elite Series 2 Base Controller
The Xbox Elite Series 2 Core controller comes with the same rubber grip, adjustable tension grips, and shorter trigger locks. Users can also remap buttons in the Xbox Accessories app, and the controller also comes with a built-in battery that provides 40 hours of battery life.
However, the Xbox Elite Series 2 Core controller lacks everything a standard Elite Series 2 controller has, including various joysticks and a D-pad, as well as petals that can be attached to the back for four additional buttons. The carrying case is also not included with the charging base.
In fact, Microsoft is selling all of these additional components individually in the new Complete Components Package for $59.99. This will be available starting September 21 with the Xbox Elite Series 2 Core controller. This bundle includes interchangeable sticks and D-pad, paddles, carrying case, charging stand and braided USB-C cable.
Xbox Design Lab moves to a new controller
Microsoft also announced today that Xbox fans will be able to build their own Xbox Elite Series 2 controller at the Xbox Design Lab during the holiday season. The company also indicated that it was listening to feedback from players complaining about reliability issues.
“We listened carefully to gamers and continued to improve the Elite Series 2 controllers, making them more reliable than ever with advanced components designed to last. For added peace of mind, Elite Series 2 controllers are backed by a one-year Microsoft limited warranty. “, the company underlines.
The new Xbox Elite Series 2 Wireless Controller – Core in White and a full set of components are available for pre-order starting today in select markets worldwide. The current Xbox Elite Series 2 Wireless Controller in black will remain available for €179.99.
