Nintendo has responded to Sony’s price increase on the PlayStation 5 and reassured gamers by promising that the Switch will not move at that level. At least not yet planned. Microsoft held the same speech for its Xbox Series X/S.
In a statement to Eurogamer, Nintendo stated:
As our Chairman Mr. Furukawa said at the 82nd AGM in June:
“While we cannot comment on pricing strategies, we currently have no plans to change the prices of our equipment due to inflation or increased procurement costs in each country. We will determine our future pricing strategies through careful and ongoing discussion.”
While the final price for consumers is still determined by retailers, Furukawa said that Nintendo has no plans to raise the retail price of its hardware.
Good news for gamers. Sony is the only one that has decided to increase the price of its PlayStation 5. The group justifies this choice with the current economic situation and inflation. However, be careful, Microsoft and Nintendo may well do the same in the future. But at the moment nothing is changing.
