Game news Nintendo Switch: The next Donkey Kong developed by the Super Mario Odyssey team?
Iconic character of the Nintendo universe, Donkey Kong is rather discreet and has not seen a new episode since Tropical Freeze in 2014, title brought to Switch in 2018. However, a bundle of rumors indicate that the license could soon make his big comeback.
This rumor comes to us from the Twitter user named LonelyGoomba, which indicates to have had wind the development of a brand new Donkey Kong, whose production would have been entrusted to the team of Super Mario Odyssey. A rumor that he considers very surprising, especially since leaks are rare from Nintendo as regards games. Information is supported by other people but especially by Nintendo Life, which indicates having heard the same rumors from a “very reliable” source. According to the various sources, it would be a Donkey Kong in “2D”, and not a 3D platform like Super Mario Odyssey. Everything is also reinforced by the recent statements of the leaker called Zippo :
It’s the 40th birthday of the great ape, and while I’m not sure how Nintendo is celebrating the occasion, a new 2D DK game is in development by Nintendo EPD. Retro Studios is obviously busy with other things (Metroid Prime 4, editor’s note), so Nintendo decided to bring DK back internally. Don’t expect the “Country” nickname to come back, as EPD isn’t interested in the idea of making a sequel to games they didn’t make. Diddy, Cranky, and the Kremling Krew are all expected to return in this episode. Looks like this game will launch before the end of the year. An E3 announcement seems very likely.
We will have to wait for Nintendo to communicate to have the end of the story, but the timing seems good to announce the return of Donkey Kong. See you in a few weeks to find out if this possible title has been announced or not.
