NVIDIA Releases DLSS 2.3, A Big Update To Its AI Supersampling

So far only 16 games are compatible with DLSS 2.3, but the recent release of the SDK to developers should speed up updates.

  • Baldur’s Gate 3
  • Bright memory: infinite
  • Crysis 2 Remastered
  • Crysis 3 Remastered
  • Cyberpunk 2077
  • Deathloop
  • Eternal DOOM
  • Grand Theft Auto III – Definitive Edition
  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – Definitive Edition
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – Definitive Edition
  • Jurassic World Evolution 2
  • Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Rise of the Tomb Raider
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider
  • Sword and fairy 7

NVIDIA also announces 10 new games that support the technology with the expected performance gains, although they are expected to use an older version of DLSS.

  • Corsa Race Competition: up to 2 times
  • FAR: The Survival: 2 fois
  • Battlefield 2042: 2 times
  • Bright memory: Infinite: 2.5 fois
  • Elder Scrolls Online: + 50%
  • Farming Simulator 22: 2 fois
  • Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition: jusqu’à 85%
  • Hot Wheels Unleashed: up to 50%
  • Jurassic World Evolution 2: up to 60%

But wait, there is more

The latest driver and GeForce Experience update also brings a cool new feature for users: a spatial scaling solution, soberly called NVIDIA Image Scaling.

While DLSS leverages Deep Learning-trained algorithms to deliver organic results, NIS works through more conventional shaders, allowing any GPU to take advantage.

Similarly, the NIS allows you to cast a game at a lower resolution and then scale it to a higher resolution for a significant performance gain, while limiting the loss of sharpness. AMD’s FidelityFX SuperResolution is based on the same technical foundations.

We can consider that NIS is an inferior solution to DLSS, which takes advantage of the anticipation of movements to calculate new images, but its different approach to sharpness offers a different result that could interest some users, especially since, theoretically, all games are compatible with this technology. So there is no need to wait for the DLSS patch to enjoy quality scaling.

In fact, NIS has been available to users for some time now, but only from the NVIDIA control panel. The functionality is now available directly from GeForce Experience, which should greatly facilitate its use and be more visible to the general public.

To give developers and hackers a better idea of the different scaling algorithms available and the results of each, NVIDIA has released a free tool for this purpose: ICAT, for NVIDIA’s Image Comparison and Analysis Tool. If you like sliders’ image quality comparisons, this is the right place.
