Omicron variant: a vaccine ready in a few weeks?

While the Omicron variant is shaking the planet, the team behind AstraZeneca’s vaccine is already on the verge of producing an effective vaccine against this new threat, several European media report.

The British laboratory has already created a new formula. The results of the tests of this vaccine should be known in the next few days.

If analyzes show that this new vaccine offers adequate protection against the Omicron variant, it could be delivered within a few weeks, said immunologist Sir John Bell.

The latter also claimed that it was too late to stop the spread of the variant and prevent it from spreading around the world.

AstraZeneca’s new vaccine formulation began development when the first African variant appeared last year.

Oxford Vaccine Group Director Andrew Pollard also wanted to reassure the public that, in his opinion, the Omicron variant was highly unlikely to spread massively in vaccinated people.

At the BBC, Professor Pollard indicated that it was now possible to act very quickly if a variant reduced the effectiveness of a vaccine, since “the development processes of a new vaccine are lubricated better from day to day.”
