Warm Series: Virgin River (Netflix)

Synopsis

Mel Monroe leaves painful memories of his life in Los Angeles for a position as a nurse practitioner in the California town of Virgin River. But she discovers that integrating into such a small town is not easy and that she will have to overcome her past first.

Opinion

We may be in mid-August, Virgin River is a series that makes you want to roll under the covers with hot chocolate. Due in part to the cabin, the river, and the atmosphere of the tall pine forest, the series has a cozy vibe that almost makes you want to move to Virgin River for a taste of peaceful outdoor living.

With its lovable characters, the little side of the Gilmore girls, and a milk soup storyline that’s eaten with gusto, Virgin River is the perfect recipe for a comforter series. Lovers of romance and soap operas will find what they’re looking for in this undeniably charming series.

Of course, life in the Virginia River is not a long, calm river. Mel and his friends face all sorts of dramatic situations, from the presence of illegal marijuana growers to local gossip causing a scandal. In the midst of all this, the viewer is never bored, because the series connects the twists and turns to weave a story that, of course, is nothing super original, but which allows you to relax and enjoy your time in front of a small screen. Use without measure.

Chilling Series: Zone Blanche (Netflix)

Synopsis

Villefranche is a small isolated town in the heart of an endless forest in which no means of communication are possible. In this place where crimes, disappearances and other mysteries are connected, Major Lauren Weiss goes deep into the forest to uncover its mysteries, including the mystery of his own kidnapping twenty years earlier.

Opinion

Another series set in a small town in the woods, Zone Blanche is the opposite of Virgin River because you don’t want to live in this small town where the murder rate is six times higher than the national average. If you missed this French series when it aired on France Télévisions in 2017, feel free to give it a shot on Netflix, especially if you’re a fan of fantasy-accented thrillers.

Zone Blanche puts the forest at the center of its storytelling, sublimating it through well-crafted staging and making it a character in its own right in the series. After all, we are following Major Weiss with interest, to also unravel the mysteries of this place, which are as frightening as they are captivating.

With a chilling production, mesmerizing sets and a meticulous screenplay, Zone Blanche takes us into a story that combines classic detective series and supernatural thriller. If the series has only two short seasons, then it manages to amaze the viewer with a mysterious atmosphere and a spectacular cast. Have.

A series like no other: Reservation Dogs

Synopsis

Four teenage boys on an Indian reservation commit petty crimes in the hope of raising enough money to leave for a better life.

Opinion

With a cast of Native American characters, the series can certainly be counted on the fingers of one hand. With Dogs of the Reservation, Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi invite us to discover a different version of America, where the peoples are descended from those who lived there before and saw the white man monopolize their lands. Combining humor, emotion and even mysticism, Reservation Dogs presents us with the daily life of young teenagers living in a nature reserve with only one desire: to go somewhere else.

If the life of the characters in “Reservation Dogs” seems to be full of obstacles, then the series never runs into pathos, but rather brilliantly uses humor to paint a sincere and believable portrait of today’s Indian reservations and their inhabitants. The unique series Reservation Dogs with its colorful characters helps to look at America in a new way.

It’s easy to fall under the spell of a group of lost teenagers at the heart of the series, whose cast of Devery Jacobs, D’Pharaoh Wun-Ah-Tai, Paulina Alexis and Lane Factor are superb. While Season 2 launches this week in the United States, it’s never too late on Disney+ to give you plenty of time to quietly discover the unmissable first season of this series.
