Theoretically, Shell will supply renewable energy to Microsoft, which will in turn help develop new artificial intelligence (AI) solutions to help Shell optimize, in real time, its production and the management of its operations. . Beginnings of the technological relationship between Shell and Microsoft

The work of the Open Al Energy Initiative is not Shell’s first foray into artificial intelligence. It already uses these technologies to:

- Accurately forecast the location of its horizontal mines in order to make the most of newly identified oil and gas sources;

- Identify upstream and alert employees of possible security risks in its service stations and distribution sites using CCTV images and “Internet of Things” devices;

- Provide its developers with self-service development and testing environments provisioned in virtual machines using Microsoft Azure DevTest Labs;

It can rightly be considered a “digital pioneer” in the energy sector.

Implementation of the Open AI Energy Initiative (OAI)

The Open AI Energy Initiative (OAI) required, apart from the main protagonists that are Shell and Microsoft, the sustained intervention of C3 AI and Baker Hughes.

The clearly pursued objective is to provide energy operators, service providers, equipment manufacturers and independent software vendors with a framework of proposals for interoperable solutions via BHC3 AI Suite and Microsoft Azure software.

The first set of OAI solutions focuses on reliability. It was designed to improve the availability and performance of energy assets and processes. These solutions will then serve as extensions to the BHC3 Reliability application, which is the logical continuation of the BHC3 AI Suite, and its ability to integrate data from disparate sources across the enterprise.

It further helps shape AI reliability models that span all factory operations while taking full advantage of Azure, Microsoft’s scalable, enterprise-class cloud infrastructure.

OAI makes energy production cleaner, safer and more efficient, with dozens of Free VPN that do the job. But also, it enriches BHC3 applications with domain-specific solutions, led by partners that accelerate the deployment of AI-based reliability solutions to unleash significant economic value in the energy sector. The OAI ecosystem creates interoperability between BHC3 Reliability, BHC3 Production Optimization, BHC3 Inventory Optimization, C3 AI CRM, OAI modules and industry solutions, which evolves predictive maintenance based on AI, reduces costs and improves productivity, reliability and energy performance. This interoperability, however, is only possible with a range of existing technologies used in the energy sector, in particular:

Thus, Shell is in the process of making modules via OAI, a preventive technology of:

- Maintenance for control valves, known as “Shell Predictive Maintenance for Control Valves”;

- Maintenance for rotating equipment, known as “Shell Predictive Maintenance for Rotating Equipment”;

- Maintenance for submersible electric submersible pumps, known as “ Shell Predictive Maintenance for Subsea Electrical Submersible Pumps ”.
