OPPO wants to compete with Samsung with Find N foldable smartphones

That’s right, Samsung is dominating the new foldable smartphone category. But the Korean brand does not have all the space, and new competition from the Chinese OPPO is coming.

The OPPO Find N has been designed to compete with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series. But this model with a 7.1-inch main screen and a 5.49-inch secondary screen was only sold in China.

Now, OPPO seems set to offer two models to compete with the Samsung Z Flip and Z Fold, two foldable devices grouped under the Find N brand. Samsung’s 4th generation foldable devices.

According to 9to5Google and Pricebaba’s blog, OPPO’s two new foldable smartphones should be named Find N Fold and Find N Flip, according to documents filed with the European Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). The name was filed in August, which suggests that the company may release its devices outside of China this year.

Folding market is expanding

This month, during the Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4. Just before then, the South Korean company said that foldable devices are becoming more popular, with 10 million foldable devices sold in 2021 – just three. years after the launch of the first folding model released by Samsung.

IDC estimates that 7.1 million foldable devices were sold in 2021, up from 1.9 million in 2020. The analyst says they “must stay” thanks to their attractive form factor and unique price point.

IDC also predicts that vendors will ship 13 million foldable smartphones in 2022. This is a significant number, although it represents less than 2% of all smartphone sales.

Foldable smartphones vs. tablets

Folding devices represent many novelties both in terms of their technical characteristics and their dimensions. So many options available to users!

As for Motorola, the main screen size of the Razr has increased, 6.7 inches for the 2022 model compared to 6.2 inches for the 2020 model, and weighs between 192g and 200g.

Although the market for foldable phones is very small compared to regular smartphones, it allows manufacturers to enter the tablet market, which is largely dominated by Apple. Apple shipped 12.6 million iPads in the second quarter of 2022, compared with 7.3 million for Samsung in the second quarter of 2022, according to IDC.
