Paris: Restaurant under investigation for rejecting blacks

RACISM. The video shows three young black women in evening dresses facing away from the Manko restaurant on avenue Montaigne in the 8th arrondissement of Paris.

Following the broadcast of a video showing blacks turning away from a Parisian restaurant, an investigation into discrimination based on origin, ethnicity or nationality was launched Friday, Paris prosecutors said.

The three young women who filmed this scene booked a table on the evening of July 16th at the Manko Restaurant, located on the very chic Avenue Montaigne, at the foot of the Champs-Elysées in the 8th arrondissement of Paris.

“My first experience of racism”

However, well-dressed, they were rejected by the guard because they were not wearing an evening dress, as we hear in the video. The video, posted on the social media platform TikTok and accompanied by the caption “My first experience of racism”, had been viewed more than 650,000 times by Friday afternoon. “But we are dressed in evening dress! It’s a joke! (…) What should I wear? exclaims one of the three women.

Stunned, one of them films how white people enter the establishment without difficulty, while other blacks are denied entry. “But it shocks me, it really exists …”, she laments.
