Here are some news that Nintendo fans will love. Pikmin 4 does exist and it will arrive next year. Here’s what Nintendo had to say about Pikmin 4 in the press release below:
“A first look at the next game in the Pikmin franchise showed a quiet park and a slumbering bullborb, but it still lacked one important element… Pikmin! Where can they be? More information about this new game for Nintendo Switch will be revealed prior to its launch in 2023.”
Pikmin is a beloved franchise, but even with its niche popularity, it has never reached the heights of other Nintendo franchises. In total, over 8 million copies of this franchise have been sold. Pikmin 3 Deluxe on Switch proved that the franchise still has a lot of fans, with close to 2 million units sold in less than a year – a quarter of the series’ total sales – and fans speculated that it proved to Nintendo that it was time for a real sequel. .
Pikmin 4 was mentioned by series creator Shigeru Miyamoto back in 2015 when he told Eurogamer that it was in development and “very close to completion”. A 2D Pikmin spinoff was then announced and was released in July 2017. Some have speculated that it was Pikmin 4 that Miyamoto was referring to in 2015, but in June of that year, Miyamoto told Eurogamer that “this is progress”, seemingly confirming that he did not watch Hey! Pikmin as the fourth sequel. Unfortunately, this was Nintendo’s last link to Pikmin 4. Until the current Nintendo Direct!
Nintendo showed off a short teaser trailer that gave us a glimpse into the world of Pikmin before moving on to the title screen, which revealed that Pikmin 4 is coming to Switch next year. As for when we don’t know yet.
