Porsche hasn’t said exactly when the Porsche 718 Cayman and 718 Boxter will go electric, they did mention mid-decade, which is 2025.
The company said that “by mid-decade, we want to offer our mid-engined 718 sports car in all-electric form.” This will be their third electric vehicle after the Porsche Taycan and Porsche Macan EV.
Porsche plans for the new 718 Cayman and Boxster to be similar in design and driving to the current 718 models. More details from Porsche are below.
“It will have typical roadster dimensions. Our EVs will always be 100% Porsche and not just geared towards competitors in the EV segment. When we made the Taycan, our benchmark was the 911.”
The automaker is expected to use much of its Misson R EV technology in the new 718 Cayman and 718 Boxster. They also confirmed that the new electric 718 Cayman and Boxster models will be built at their Stuttgart plant, where the Porsche 911 is built, and that the cars will share parts with the 911.
