Porsche has announced the successful completion of testing of its new Porsche 963 racing car at Daytona.
The car was tested by the Porsche Penske Motorsport team at the Daytona International Speedway in Florida in the USA and completed 397 laps on the race track in total.
Test runs on the legendary American circuit challenged the 500 kW (680 hp) hybrid car. Outside conditions of around 35 degrees Celsius, combined with high humidity of over 90 percent and regular rainstorms, have pushed man and machine to their limits – such enormous loads create ideal conditions to prepare the Porsche 963 for fierce competition in the 2023 season.
On the first of two days, the team was hampered by climatic conditions: under US law, lightning strikes near the Daytona Beach racetrack meant that all marshals had to go to safety. Consequently, the start of the test was delayed by 90 minutes. The new prototype, which will compete for overall victory at Le Mans, Dayton and Sebring from next year, then began its endurance run.
The new Porsche 963 will make its racing debut next January at the 24 Hours of Daytona, learn more about the car at the link below.
