Culture news Predator: an official title and some details revealed on the next film
Despite the failure of The Predator movie in 2018, a new movie, dubbed Predator 5, has been in the works for over four years. Officially announced in November 2020, the film is being talked about again today.
Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, the future film was until then very discretly. We had simply been entitled to a leak relayed during the Tribal Film Festival, in which we learned that the plot could take place in North America and feature a certain Kee. It would be a young woman from the Comanche tribe wishing to become a real warrior to find her little brother. Today, Collider published a interview with John Davis and John Fox, producers on the film, allowing us to know more.
First of all, we discover that the film’s codename, Skull, is actually the official title of the latter, and that he will narrate the first hunt for the Yautjas on the blue planet. We also had confirmation that the film will tell the story of a heroine, and that it could be released as early as 2022. The production would already be 75% complete, and the film would have been shot in the utmost secrecy, while production is currently reviewing rushes for editing. Regarding the intentions of the feature film, John Davis says:
We’re getting closer to what worked in the first Predator. It is the ingenuity of a human being who will not give up, who is able to observe, draw conclusions, and ultimately fight against a more powerful and better armed force. (…) By viewing the rushes, we understand how his vision (that of Dan Trachtenberg) is perfectly unique. It has its own language and it’s new, cool and interesting.
In reality, it will look more like The Revenant than any other movie in the Predator saga. You will understand what I mean when you see it. (And concerning the assembly It all depends on (him). It was intended as an adult movie, but it could easily become a PG-13. Guess I would find out when this is all set.
The producers do not wish to say when the film will take place, but they explain all the same that the helicopters did not exist yet, and that the whole will be at least “as intense as the Revenant“. But in any case, the two producers seem extremely confident :
We started making the movie during the shooting of the last The Predator. Dan came to me with an idea and a screenwriter while we were making the movie. Emma Watts was instrumental in telling me, “You know what, we’re gonna put it in development right now. Let’s do it now.” You couldn’t shoot one movie and prepare another at the same time, especially if one marked the end of the franchise and the other went back to the origins. So everything was done in the utmost secrecy. You will be surprised.
The film will be, I believe, the second best or perhaps the first, or even at the same level as the first. I think the first one was great and interesting. I understand what worked, but I feel like we never got back to it. (…)
Now we just have to wait for images, trailers, the casting announcement and a release date. Sounds like a lot, but if you are to believe the words of the producers, chances are the news will not be long overdue.
Note: The illustration video features Predator: Hunting Grounds, an asymmetric multiplayer game.
