Pro-Russian hackers target Italian institutional sites, according to police – Science et Avenir

ROME (Reuters) – Several institutional and government websites in Italy have again come under attack by pro-Russian hackers, Italian law enforcement officials said on Friday.

At 0800 GMT, the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Association of Magistrates was still unavailable.

The attack was launched around 20:00 GMT on Thursday by the Killnet hacker group, Italian cybersecurity company Yarix said.

A similar cyberattack occurred on May 11th.

Italian police announced on Sunday that they had foiled several hacking attempts by pro-Russian groups during the Eurovision semi-final on May 10 and the final last Saturday, which was won by the Ukrainian delegation.

According to Italian authorities, these cyberattacks were carried out by the Killnet group and the Legion affiliated group.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24, many Western governments have raised their alert levels for possible cyber attacks on IT systems and infrastructure.
