Mercedes Benz has announced the start of production in the US of its latest electric vehicle, the Mercedes EQS SUV.
It is the first allelectric Mercedes Benz vehicle to be built in the US, with production already underway at their plant in Alabama.
MercedesBenz manufactures the allelectric EQS exclusively at its North American passenger car plant. These vehicles rolling off the assembly line are a key step in MercedesBenz Cars’ global initiative to produce eight allelectric vehicles at seven sites on three continents this year. The EQS fullsize SUV is integrated into series production at the MercedesBenz Tuscaloosa plant in Alabama, which has been the production site for large threepointed star SUVs since 1997. Tuscaloosa is a key production site for the MercedesEQ. luxury electric SUVs: EQS SUV and EQE SUV, which will start production later this year.
Jörg Burzer, Member of the Management Board of MercedesBenz Group AG, Manufacturing and Supply Chain: “Our production network is very well positioned for a sustainable and rapid increase in the production of electric vehicles. With the new EQS SUV joining our portfolio of allelectric MercedesEQ models, we have reached another milestone in our strategy to move to allelectric vehicles by the end of the decade – wherever market conditions permit. I have every confidence that our amazing Tuscaloosa team will make the electric SUV another global success.”
