Game news PS5: Is Sony finally ready to give it all up and ditch the PS4?

All good things must come to an end, and it is clear that the PlayStation 4 is gradually approaching the end of its journey. Nothing official has been said at this point, but Sony’s latest 2023 promotional video clearly points to the demise of its iconic console… in favor of the PS5.
The video that says it all?
It’s a bit of a tradition on Sony’s part: at the beginning of the year, the firm publishes a promotional video that highlights the games that will be coming to its platforms over the next twelve months, which can be found above. It includes its own exclusives such as its own games as well as applications from third party publishers. Only now, for 2023, the strategy of the Japanese manufacturer seems to focus more on the PlayStation 5.
It’s even obvious when you show all the games in the video: all Sony games are exclusive to PS5 and just don’t come to PS4. In total, out of the 23 games featured, only 8 are planned for both PS5 and PS4, and they come from third-party publishers like Ubisoft, Capcom, or Warner Bros Interactive.
Here is the full list of games featured in the video:
- Final Fantasy 16 – PS5
- Horizon 2 DLC – PS5 Oly
- Spiderman 2 – PS5
- Assassin’s Creed Mirage – PS5/PS4
- Resident Evil 4 – PS5/PS4
- Forgotten – PS5
- Suicide Squad – PS5
- Dead Space – PS5
- Starblade – PS5 Oly

- Pacific Drive – PS5
- Lords of the Fallen – PS5
- Horizon: Call of the Mountain – PS5 (PSVR 2)

Is it finally time for PS5?
If such a change of direction seems normal to anyone, it must be said that it is especially belated. The PlayStation 5 has been on sale for two years (when it can be found), and with the exception of a few games, PS4 has also released the biggest exclusives: God of War Ragnarok, Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales, Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Forbidden West… Very good news for old generation players, but not for new generation players as they get games that are more likely to be held back by the power of the PS4.
After years of activity, 25 million consoles sold and a shortage we should finally see an end to, it seems like Sony is finally ready to take it to the next level and really prioritize the PS5. Do you think it’s really good news?
