Sony Playstation 5:
With the launch of new generation consoles, PS5 and Xbox Series X / S, comparisons between video games have started to circulate on the net: some games, such as Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla or DiRT 5, seem to work better on Sony console, something Microsoft is investigating to resolve. However, this is not the case with Watch Dogs Legion: in a recent technical analysis showed identical performance on both consoles.
Digital Foundry’s latest tech review highlights PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S versions of Watch Dogs Legion and his conclusion is that they all work practically identical, saving the S-series for its significantly lower resolution. For this, all its versions and laser tracing, which reacts with similar quality on all consoles.
Similar performance on all consoles
PS5 and Xbox Series X move the game into one 4K dynamic resolution, while the reflections are rendered at 1080p resolution. On Xbox Series S, the overall game resolution is 1080p and the reflections drop to 720p. All consoles use the same scene reconstruction technique to create these reflections.
Regarding fluidity, Watch Dogs Legion offers a locked frame rate of 30 fps, which ensures that the game stays at this rate in a completely stable manner across all three platforms. That is, it doesn’t hit 60 fps but it doesn’t have any frame loss either. From Digital Foundry, they wonder if it is possible that later a Performance mode so that the game can run at 60 fps on new generation consoles, similar to resolution mode added by Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in its latest patch.
During the analysis s minor differences were found that do not balance the scale towards either of the two platforms: On PS5, load times are a bit faster than on Xbox Series X, although none of them reach the instant speed promised for the new generation. It also appears that some textures do not work at the highest possible resolution on Xbox Series X, while on PS5 some puddles do not reflect.
