Qualcomm presents its new high-end SoC, the Snapdragon 870 5G

Qualcomm has just unveiled its new Snapdragon 870 5G mobile chipset. This is an upgrade to the flagship processor of the American founder, intended to improve the graphics rendering of premium smartphones.

The Snapdragon 870 5G takes over from the Snapdragon 865 Plus, a 5G chipset with a fast CPU and improved GPU compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 865. The “boosted” Snapdragon 870 5G is equipped with a CPU Improved Kyro 585, entering at base clock speeds of up to 3.2 GHz.

In addition, this chipset has been developed for mobile games thanks to the Snapdragon Elite gaming system, display support up to 4K at 60Hz, updatable GPU drivers and the Adreno implementation. Other technical specifications of the chipset include an Adreno 650 GPU, a Hexagon 698 processor, a Qualcomm Sensing Hub, a Snapdragon X55 5G-RF modem – compatible with the millimeter bands of 5G – Wi-Fi FastConnect 6800, bluetooth 5.2, Qualcomm Spectra 480 image processor as well as Quick Charge 4+.

“Building on the success of the Snapdragon 865 and 865 Plus, the new Snapdragon 870 has been designed to meet the demands of OEMs and the mobile industry,” said Kedar Kondap, vice president of product management at Qualcomm. “The Snapdragon 870 will power a selection of flagship devices from key customers, including Motorola, iQOO, OnePlus, OPPO and Xiaomi. Smartphones equipped with the American founder’s new chipset will be available during the first quarter of 2021.

Earlier this month, Qualcomm also introduced the Snapdragon 480 5G, an SoC designed to bring 5G connectivity to entry-level smartphones.
