Ragnar Locker Group Shames LDLC

In a press release published this Tuesday morning on the LDLC group website, the specialist in the sale of PC equipment and spare parts denounced a cyberattack that affected its computer systems. The company took a reassuring tone in that initial statement, explaining that the hacking had no impact on its business, but that the attackers could have seen certain personal data. However, the group specified that customer data was not concerned and that its security teams were working on an “in-depth analysis” to strengthen the protection measures implemented.

In a note on its site, the ransomware group Ragnar Locker claimed responsibility for the attack and published several documents and screenshots of the LDLC system. In the screenshots, we can see several images of the LDLC Vsphere interface, a VMWare software used to manage a large number of virtual machines.

Another screenshot shows an internal messaging interface, suggesting that the attackers managed to gain access to an account used by one of the employees working in incident response after the attack was discovered. Messages exchanged suggest that the screenshot was taken the weekend before the LDLC press release was released.

In addition to the screenshots, the Ragnar group also disseminates two files, respectively 8.5 GB and 21 GB, which the group claims to have stolen from their victim’s computer system. The group said it had “notified” the LDLC group of the attack and the data theft, but received no response, prompting them to begin spreading the data. As a result of these publications, LDLC for its part withdrew the press release initially posted on its site about the cyberattack.

What we understand between the lines is that LDLC is refusing to pay the ransom demanded by the group of attackers. Ragnar Locker is a group known for launching ransomware attacks, often involving blackmail and spreading stolen data through a dedicated site. Ragnar Locker has been active since at least April 2020. The group had already targeted aircraft maker Dassault Falcon Jet, or even video game publisher Capcom.
