Realme 9i 5G Review: Our Opinion –

Released early 2022, Realme 9i had to wait until the second half of the year to see its 5G compatible sibling, which the manufacturer charges 219 euros. The model that offers balanced technical sheet with no frills.

Design: a new take on a classic

Realme was inspired by the CD to design your phone and let it display the reflections on the back, which can be seen below. It’s a pity that the reverse side holds up so well fingerprints and dust. Apart from this aspect, the Realme 9i 5G has a somewhat outdated styling with thick bottom border and “u” notch. The cuts are flat, the corners are rounded. Rear photosensors are built directly into the housing.

Realme 9i 5G is pretty slim smartphone with its dimensions 164.4 x 75.1 x 8.1 mm. As for the weight, on the counter is 187 g.

Screen: black black

Realme 9i 5G is equipped with a screen 6.6 inches. It relies on LCD technologyhas a definition 1080 x 2408 pixels at 400 dpi and provides us with an update rate 90 Hz. In short, classic hardware nonetheless effective for a smartphone at this price point. Except outdoors.

The panel is sorely lacking in brightness with a peak value of just 400 nits. And the colorimetry leaves much to be desired. White turns blue, which means passing through the parameters to adjust the shooting. Otherwise, the Realme 9i 5G screen provides everything you need and will appeal to fans of browsing and gaming.

Audio: the best combination

Realme 9i 5G is proud to be Certified HiRes Speakers. This duet delivers right service although I would like a more balanced sound with less harsh highs. We appreciate the minijack port that accompanies Bluetooth technology and thus gives us the option of connecting a wired or wireless headset. And this connection offers good rendering with satisfying bass and controlled distortion.

Performance: Beware of Greed

Realme 9i with SoC Dimensity 810 and 6 GB of RAM (for our version) displays modest performance but suitable for mobile users who limit themselves to viewing content.

AnTuTu, Geekbench, 3D Mark and PC Mark

Gamers will have to turn to a smartphone with a faster chip unless they feel the need to play 3D games like Call of Duty Mobile or Genshin Impact.

Software: Lots of customization options… and malware

Realme 9i comes with Android 12 and Realme UI 3.0 overlay. The interface is relatively accessible and easily customizable from head to toe.. Well done multitasking management with the ability to split the screen and launch multiple floating windows. Everything can be managed from the sidebar shortcuts.

The black dot of this experience remains the presence of many malware which, fortunately, can be removed at any time.

Part of the photo: one sensor to control them all

The terminal has three sensors on the rear panel. The program has a 50megapixel main sensor (f / 1.8), a 2megapixel sensor dedicated to portraits, and another of the same resolution for macro photography.

Realme 9i 5G is clearly not the best camera phone in its category. but he protects himself, like many of his colleagues, in daylight with his wideangle lens. However, beware of the overexposure trap that this module regularly falls into. Unfortunately, at night the loss of detail is obvious.. Digital noise significantly reduces image quality.

Paired with this sensor, the 2MP module is designed for portrait mode. a little help. Clipping lacks precision and blur is applied roughly. The macro is equally optional.

The 8 megapixel (f/2.0) front sensor offers worthy selfies when the lighting conditions are good. The antialiasing level is a bit high though, but the rendering remains usable..

Autonomy: marathon runner

Like its predecessor, Realme 9i 5G very good student in this field. Its battery is 5000 mAh gives it an autonomy of two days in mixed use. The smartphone comes with an 18W charger that provides Full recharge in 2 hours 15 minutes.

Competition note

There are a lot of models under 300 euros, but few smartphones can offer such an attractive priceperformance ratio as the Realme 9i 5G. Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 and Samsung Galaxy M23 5G are undoubtedly the most reliable alternatives. Both terminals benefit from a slightly larger portion of the photo with the ultrawide lens. Redmi Note 11 adds an OLED panel to its arguments.

Conclusion

Realme 9i 5G is a good smartphone with a discreet aura. Understand, it does not revolutionize the market, but remains an interesting model in the already wellstocked range of the Chinese manufacturer. It will suit users who are looking for a device with a large screen to watch TV series, take notes or scroll through social networks. It could be the best camera phone to stand out from the competition.
