Samsung introduced the second generation SmartSSD and this new model has reduced processing time by more than 50 percent.
It also reduces power consumption by up to 70% and provides up to 97% more efficient CPU usage compared to standard SSDs.
The new patented compute storage includes data processing functionality on a highperformance solid state drive. Unlike existing SSDs, Samsung SmartSSD can process data directly, thus minimizing data transfer between CPU, GPU and RAM. This technology avoids the bottlenecks that often occur when moving data between storage devices and the CPU, resulting in a noticeable increase in system performance and much higher energy efficiency.
SmartSSD is playing an increasingly important role, especially with the rise of nextgeneration technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and 5G/6G that require processing large amounts of data.
Using software and intellectual property (IP) developed by customers, as well as embedded Arm cores, the second generation Samsung SmartSSD provides much more efficient data processing. Compared to conventional data center SSDs, scanintensive database queries can be reduced by more than 50%, power consumption by up to 70%, and CPU usage by up to 97%.
