If you want to pay for goods and services wirelessly with Apple Pay on your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or Mac and haven’t set it up yet. This quick guide will walk you through the entire process of enabling Apple Pay on your Apple ID Wallet, allowing you to pay wirelessly with your preferred Apple device. When you buy a new iPhone or iPad, Apple will help you add a payment card during setup, but if you skipped this section, setting up Apple Pay is just as easy after that.
Apple Pay provides an easier way to pay than using physical credit cards, debit cards, or store cards, and stores your payment information securely in the Apple Wallet app on your devices under your ID. Apple Pay allows you to make secure payments in stores, apps, and online at websites that support Apple Pay. Apple’s relatively new payment service is becoming more and more popular and is a great alternative to other payment services like PayPal, which currently forces you to jump from one place to another before you can make a payment.
Make a payment with Apple Pay
If you’re interested in using Apple’s relatively new payment system to make purchases both in stores and online using your iPhone, Apple Watch, or Mac computer, you’ll be pleased to know that it’s very easy to set up and allows you to add a variety of different debit and credit cards to your wallet. It is convenient to make them available for everyday and special purchases, wherever you are.
Apple Pay lets you quickly double-click the Power button on your iPhone or Apple Watch to make a payment. Clean and simple, as you would expect from Apple. The payment system uses Near Field Communication (NFC) from your wearables and mobile devices while you are physically standing in the store. If you are browsing the web, you can make a purchase by simply clicking a button similar to the one below on the website using a Mac, iPhone, or iPad to pay.
Adding a Credit or Debit Card to Wallet
If you already have debit or credit cards associated with your Apple ID, your cards must be listed in your Apple Wallet. You can access it by double-clicking the Power button on the right side of newer iPhone devices. Once opened, your wallet allows you to view all your payments and store cards at your leisure, allowing you to select the one you’d like to use for wireless payment, perhaps in a store or physical wireless payment terminal.
If you haven’t set up cards yet and your Apple Wallet is empty to add a new payment method, you’ll need to sign in with your Apple ID. Once you’ve done that, enter your payment details from your card as prompted by the Wallet app, or simply scan your credit card with your iPhone’s camera. Sometimes this will work perfectly, but with some providers you will need to enter the details manually. In addition to adding payment details to Apple Wallet, you can also enter transit cards by simply entering the card name or location and scrolling down to see transit cards available in your area.
Default Apple Pay payment method
The first credit or debit card you add to Wallet automatically becomes the default card for payments. If you want to change this, simply log into your wallet and place your desired credit or debit card on top of the stack to make it your default payment method. To drag a card in the Wallet app, simply press and hold the card, then drag it to the front/top of the stack. This method allows you to shuffle and rearrange the cards at will.
