SFPQ officials approve collective agreement

Civil servants, represented by the Syndicat de la fonction publique et parapublique du Québec (SFPQ), approved on Friday a 77% agreement in principle with Quebec guaranteeing them a 6% to 10% pay increase.

The increase may vary depending on the type of work, according to a press release from the Union of Public and Para-Public Services of Quebec.

Other benefits and improvements to working conditions and wages were agreed, including the provision of “substantial bonuses” and “monetary and regulatory benefits”.

“After several days of strikes and numerous pressure tactics, we have finally secured recognition by the Lego government for the contribution of public servants to the maintenance of Quebec’s public services. These talks will allow us to make concrete progress in addressing the acquisition and retention issues raised by our members without taking a step back,” said SFPQ General President Christian Daigle.

69% of the 26,000 SFPQ members took part in the voting.
