Skinetic VR haptic vest equipped with voice coil motors

VR gamers may be interested in the new VR tactile vest created by the Actronika development team. This week, Skillet was launched via Kickstarter with the goal of raising enough money to move from concept to production. “Feel raindrops, wind, bullet impact and more in your game with the first device that reproduces the sensations with high fidelity.”

Actronika chose to use voice coil motors, which have several advantages over electrical stimulation or eccentric rotary motors, allowing for high definition tactile sensations, i.e. rich and precise feel. Early contributions for an interesting project are now available from around £554 to £410 (depending on current exchange rates).

“Virtual reality has changed a lot in recent years with the advancement of virtual reality headsets that can take you to fantastic new worlds. Unfortunately, the experience still cannot be truly immersive, because while it allows us to see and hear, we cannot touch or interact with the world. As we move closer to better immersion, it is necessary to fully explore what touch can bring to a virtual experience. With this in mind, we have developed something that meets this growing need: the Skillet Tactile Vest! Our Skinet vest allows you to experience everything that happens in virtual reality: live and direct, realistic sensations! Get the most out of the world of virtual reality, not only by seeing and hearing it, but also by living it.”

If Skinetic’s crowdfunding campaign successfully raises the required target and the completion of the project goes smoothly, worldwide delivery is expected to take place sometime in January 2023. To learn more about the Skinetic VR tactile vest project, watch the promotional video below.

“Synetic is first and foremost a project of two dreamers: Thomas and Thomas (do not think that everyone in Actronica is called Thomas!). At the time, one was a sales rep and the other was a software developer. They wanted to improve their gaming experience by using Actronika’s innovative tactile technology. Together they came up with a device that allows you to create tactile illusions in virtual reality, much more realistic than what exists on the market. They experimented with a rough prototype and the results were enough to get the whole team excited and interested – so much so that we all decided to build our own product in parallel with the business we already have with our clients – a real challenge!”
