This week, SMART Modular Technologies introduced a new line of SSD storage solutions offering energyefficient data center SSDs as the DC4800 PCIe Gen 4 family. The SMART DC4800 SSD was specifically designed with a hardware accelerated SSD controller that consumes less power without sacrificing storage input/output (I/O) performance.
The company explains that zeroinduction throttling allows these SSDs to perform better under constant stiffness, even when pushed to their performance limit. “This results in a significant reduction in power consumption per server, as well as stable latency up to 7 nines or 99.99999% of the time,” the press release says.
PCIe Gen 4 SSD for data centers
“Today’s advanced servers must not only manage a significant volume of transactions to power processes such as machine learning, artificial intelligence and the Internet of things, but also be more energy efficient,” said Andy Mills, data scientist. SMART Center Architect. “Data centers are increasingly facing performance and power issues as they expand to address these new workloads that process data from an evergrowing array of smart devices at the edge.”
“The DC4800 family of PCIe Gen 4 data center drives is Open Compute Project (OCP) 1.0 NVMe storage standard compliant and available in capacities up to 7.68TB and is available in U.2 and E1.S form factors. Initial sampling is already in progress with several OEMs and system builders.”
